In a significant step toward modernizing its logistics infrastructure and alleviating gate congestion, the Chennai Port Authority has officially rolled out an advanced digital system named 'Port Setu'. The platform, which was developed in collaboration with the Chennai chapter of the National Association of Container Freight Stations (NACFS), went live to specifically track the real-time movement of export containers moving from inland warehouses to the port's gates.

The launch event was presided over by Sachin S. Kurve, Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority, alongside senior customs and terminal officials. During the inauguration, authorities emphasized that Port Setu is a critical component of the broader 'One Nation One Portal' (ONOP) initiative. By electronically capturing movement data and integrating clearance information, the system drastically reduces the port's historical reliance on manual document verification—a primary chokepoint that frequently leads to long queues of heavy freight vehicles outside the terminals.

For local logistics operators and trailer fleet managers, the platform offers unprecedented visibility. By providing real-time data on container movement, Container Freight Stations (CFS) can now optimize trailer deployments, coordinate arrival times with terminal schedules, and minimize idle waiting periods for truck drivers. This synchronized approach is expected to significantly ease traffic bottlenecks on the roads leading into the Chennai port complex, improving the overall turnaround time for export cargo.

The deployment of Port Setu represents the first phase of a broader digital transformation strategy at the port. According to customs officials, the automation of these monitoring procedures ensures stricter compliance with regulatory frameworks while accelerating freight clearance. Moving forward, the successful implementation of Phase 2 will aim to completely eliminate physical paperwork, making gate-entry procedures at Chennai Port entirely digital and seamless, further reinforcing its competitive position on India's eastern seaboard.
