<p data-path-to-node="1">Global ocean carrier A.P. Moller – Maersk has announced a downward revision to its Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS) on containerized cargo moving from the Indian Subcontinent to West Coast Latin America, the Caribbean, and Central America on the B1S trade corridor.</p><p data-path-to-node="2">Effective October 10, 2026, the surcharge will decrease by $500 per container across all major equipment categories, including 20-foot dry, 40-foot dry/high-cube, and 40-foot reefer units.</p><p data-path-to-node="3">Under the revised schedule:</p><ul data-path-to-node="4"><li><p data-path-to-node="4,0,0"><b data-path-to-node="4,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">North West India & Pakistan</b> <i data-path-to-node="4,0,0" data-index-in-node="28">(covering Mundra, Jawaharlal Nehru/Nhava Sheva, Hazira, and Pipavav)</i>: Surcharges are set at $3,250 for 20’ dry, $3,050 for 40’ dry/high-cube, and $3,450 for 40’ high-cube reefers.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="4,1,0"><b data-path-to-node="4,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">South & East India</b> <i data-path-to-node="4,1,0" data-index-in-node="19">(covering Chennai, Ennore, Kattupalli, Tuticorin, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, Cochin, Mangalore, and Haldia)</i>: Rates will move to $3,450 for 20’ dry, $3,450 for 40’ dry/high-cube, and $4,050 for 40’ high-cube reefers.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="4,2,0"><b data-path-to-node="4,2,0" data-index-in-node="0">Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Maldives</b>: Rates are revised to $2,350 for 20’ dry, $2,150 for 40’ dry/high-cube, and $3,950 for 40’ high-cube reefers.</p></li></ul><p data-path-to-node="5">The carrier stated that the updated tariff applies across all Out-of-Gauge (OOG), Shipper-Owned Containers (SOC), and Non-Operating Reefer (NOR) units, with 40-foot flat rack, open-top, and NOR containers assessed at standard 40-foot dry levels.</p><p data-path-to-node="6">The across-the-board reduction brings direct freight cost relief to Indian engineering, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and chemical exporters serving Pacific-rim Latin American markets ahead of the final quarter of the year.</p>
