Sustaining its trajectory as India’s highest-throughput multi-commodity gateway on the west coast, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has crossed the significant operational milestone of handling 90 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) of cargo during the current fiscal year.

According to fiscal-to-date (FTD) traffic data, DPA handled 90,203,115 MT of total cargo from April to September, marking a steady 2.73 percent Year-on-Year (YoY) growth compared to the 87,804,367 MT processed during the corresponding period of the prior fiscal. The traffic performance was driven primarily by intensive multi-modal discharge and loading operations at the Kandla inner harbour, which accounted for 68.21 MMT of the total FTD volume. This sustained growth reinforces DPA’s critical function as the primary energy and bulk raw material node supplying industrial and agricultural clusters across Northwest India.

DPA Kandla continues to leverage deep-draft mechanized dry bulk berths, extensive oil jetties, and integrated intermodal rail connectivity to optimize vessel turnaround times and maximize quayside asset utilization. The 90 MMT achievement positions the port Authority to exceed previous annual throughput records, supported by scalable multi-commodity infrastructure capable of absorbing volatile fluctuations across global energy and dry bulk markets.

Key Operational Highlights & Traffic Composition

Inner Harbour Dominance: Total inner harbour cargo handling comprising dry bulk, break bulk, liquid bulk, and specialized project cargo reached 68,212,311 MT, demonstrating high utilization of DPA's direct berths.

Streamlined Bulk Handling: Intensive mechanical handling of dry bulk commodities including coal, iron ore, salt, fertilizers, and agricultural products sustained high daily discharge rates at deep-draft berths.

Liquid Cargo Volumes: DPA’s extensive network of dedicated oil jetties and pipelines facilitated significant throughput of crude oil, petroleum products, chemicals, and edible oils, supporting regional refining and energy logistics.

Integrated hinterland Evacuation: The growth was synchronized with efficient intermodal rail and road evacuation protocols, preventing yard congestion and sustaining fluid hinterland supply chains during high-volume periods.

Competitive Turnaround Times: Maximize mechanical equipment efficiency and berth productivity to ensure minimal vessel laytime, increasing DPA's attractiveness for mainline carriers and multi-commodity bulk fleets.
