<p data-path-to-node="7">Expanding its footprint across India’s hinterland multimodal logistics grid, <b data-path-to-node="7" data-index-in-node="99">JSW Infrastructure Limited</b> has secured a <b data-path-to-node="7" data-index-in-node="140">Letter of Intent (LoI)</b> to develop, operate, and manage the <b data-path-to-node="7" data-index-in-node="199">first-ever Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Ballari, Karnataka</b>.</p><p data-path-to-node="8">The greenfield dry port facility will serve as a full-service customs-bonded logistics gateway designed to integrate Ballari’s heavy manufacturing, mining, and agricultural clusters directly into the national railway grid. By establishing direct rail-linked connectivity between the mineral-rich central Karnataka hinterland and major deep-water maritime gateways on both the western and eastern seaboards, the new ICD will drastically lower domestic drayage expenses and eliminate cargo dwell times for regional export-import (EXIM) shippers.</p><h3 data-path-to-node="10">Key Operational Highlights & Strategic Roadmap</h3><ul data-path-to-node="11"><li><p data-path-to-node="11,0,0"><b data-path-to-node="11,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">Bridging Ballari's Hinterland Gap:</b> Despite being one of India's preeminent steel, minerals, and industrial fabrication hubs, Ballari has long lacked an integrated rail-linked customs depot, forcing exporters to route containerized shipments via distant facilities in Bengaluru or Chennai by road.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="11,1,0"><b data-path-to-node="11,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">Rail-Siding and Multimodal Infrastructure:</b> The upcoming ICD will feature dedicated electrified rail sidings, container handling yards, heavy-duty reach stackers, and automated weighbridges capable of handling regular full-rake container trains (BLC rakes) directly from the hub.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="11,2,0"><b data-path-to-node="11,2,0" data-index-in-node="0">Integrated Customs and Warehousing Capabilities:</b> The terminal will host on-site customs inspection bays, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) processing centers, bonded warehousing, and dedicated reefer container plug stations, enabling local cargo stuffing, de-stuffing, and seal-clearing.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="11,3,0"><b data-path-to-node="11,3,0" data-index-in-node="0">Serving Anchor Industrial and Agrarian Belts:</b> While engineered to support steel, sponge iron, pellets, and precision engineering exports, the depot will also handle non-bulk agricultural freight from surrounding districts, including cotton bales, chillies, oilseeds, and pulses.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="11,4,0"><b data-path-to-node="11,4,0" data-index-in-node="0">Network Synergies with JSW Port Ecosystem:</b> The Ballari terminal creates strong operational synergies with JSW Infrastructure’s existing port assets such as Jaigarh Port and Mormugao Port on the west coast, as well as connections to Chennai, Ennore, and Krishnapatnam on the east coast driving seamless port-hinterland cargo evacuation.</p></li></ul>
