Strengthening North India’s cold chain supply network, state-run Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) has operationalized a dedicated import loaded reefer movement facility at its flagship Inland Container Depot, Tughlakabad (ICD TKD).

The newly introduced facility streamlines temperature-controlled logistics for imported perishable cargo, including pharmaceuticals, fresh fruits, meat, seafood, dairy, and high-value temperature-sensitive chemicals. By establishing a direct, plugged-in reefer handling system at India's largest inland dry port, CONCOR enables seamless customs clearance and rapid last-mile delivery to commercial hubs across the National Capital Region (NCR) and Northern India.

Reefer Plug-In Infrastructure, Temperature Integrity, and Multimodal Connectivity

The operational launch addresses growing regional demand for end-to-end cold chain reliability:

  • Dedicated Reefer Infrastructure & Monitoring: The facility is equipped with high-capacity reefer plug points, dedicated power backup generators, continuous temperature-monitoring sensors, and specialized handling equipment to prevent thermal breaks during customs inspection and yard storage.

  • Streamlined Import Clearance: By integrating customs appraisal, plant and animal quarantine inspections, and automated container positioning within the cold-chain yard, ICD Tughlakabad reduces dwell times and dwell-related quality deterioration for temperature-sensitive EXIM cargo.

  • Port-to-Inland Rail Corridor: The service leverages CONCOR's high-speed container train network connecting gateway seaports including Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Mundra, and Pipavav directly to ICD TKD via power-pack-equipped reefer rakes.

  • Boosting MSME & Retail Supply Chains: The facility provides importers, pharmaceutical distributors, and food retailers with lower demurrage exposure, reduced spoilage risks, and predictable inventory replenishment schedules across North Indian markets.
