<h4 data-path-to-node="3"><b data-path-to-node="3" data-index-in-node="0">National Maritime Push Aligns with Viksit Bharat 2047 Targets</b></h4><p data-path-to-node="4"><b data-path-to-node="4" data-index-in-node="0">NEW DELHI</b> — As part of its broader economic roadmap toward the <i data-path-to-node="4" data-index-in-node="63">Viksit Bharat 2047</i> vision, India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has formally set an ambitious target to add over 700 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) of new port capacity by 2030.</p><p data-path-to-node="5">Chairing a high-level review meeting on the ministry's long-term targets, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping &amp; Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal directed officials across major port authorities and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) to expedite the execution of flagship maritime projects under strict timelines.</p><blockquote data-path-to-node="6"><p data-path-to-node="6,0"><i data-path-to-node="6,0" data-index-in-node="0">"These achievements demonstrate what India can accomplish when policy, execution, and teamwork move together. Our planning must anticipate global uncertainties while keeping India's growth trajectory firmly on course,"</i> Sonowal stated during the review session.</p></blockquote><h4 data-path-to-node="8"><b data-path-to-node="8" data-index-in-node="0">Flagship Port Infrastructure Pipeline</b></h4><p data-path-to-node="9">The expansion program combines greenfield mega-port developments, berth expansion, and quayside efficiency upgrades:</p><ul data-path-to-node="10"><li><p data-path-to-node="10,0,0"><b data-path-to-node="10,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">Vadhavan Port (Maharashtra):</b> The mega-facility is expected to contribute a massive <b data-path-to-node="10,0,0" data-index-in-node="83">164 MTPA</b> of capacity by 2030–31.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="10,1,0"><b data-path-to-node="10,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">Tuticorin Outer Harbour (Tamil Nadu):</b> Set to add <b data-path-to-node="10,1,0" data-index-in-node="49">39 MTPA</b> of deepwater cargo handling capacity.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="10,2,0"><b data-path-to-node="10,2,0" data-index-in-node="0">Kandla Tuna Tekra Terminal (Gujarat):</b> Contributes <b data-path-to-node="10,2,0" data-index-in-node="50">33 MTPA</b> in additional handling capability by 2027–28.</p></li></ul><p data-path-to-node="11">Overall, the ministry projects creating approximately <b data-path-to-node="11" data-index-in-node="54">682 MTPA to 700+ MTPA</b> of new capacity through a combination of new greenfield infrastructure (<b data-path-to-node="11" data-index-in-node="148">306 MTPA</b> at major ports and <b data-path-to-node="11" data-index-in-node="176">193 MTPA</b> at non-major ports) alongside <b data-path-to-node="11" data-index-in-node="215">183 MTPA</b> unlocked via operational mechanization and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).</p><h4 data-path-to-node="13"><b data-path-to-node="13" data-index-in-node="0">Mechanization, PPPs, and Industrial Shipbuilding Clusters</b></h4><p data-path-to-node="14">To maximize operational throughput and bring Indian ports to top-tier global performance standards, the government is executing structural efficiency mandates:</p><ul data-path-to-node="15"><li><p data-path-to-node="15,0,0"><b data-path-to-node="15,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">Mechanization Drive:</b> Quayside cargo handling mechanization is projected to rise from 76% in FY26 to <b data-path-to-node="15,0,0" data-index-in-node="100">93% by 2030</b>.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="15,1,0"><b data-path-to-node="15,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">Private Sector Integration:</b> Cargo handled through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects at major ports will increase from 44% in 2013–14 to <b data-path-to-node="15,1,0" data-index-in-node="144">85% by 2030–31</b>.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="15,2,0"><b data-path-to-node="15,2,0" data-index-in-node="0">100% Digitization:</b> Full digital gate integration, automated slotting, and paperless customs workflows are targeted for universal implementation by 2030.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="15,3,0"><b data-path-to-node="15,3,0" data-index-in-node="0">Shipbuilding Expansion:</b> Following a 41% surge in domestic shipbuilding output, in-principal approvals have been granted for greenfield shipbuilding clusters in <b data-path-to-node="15,3,0" data-index-in-node="160">Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu</b>, with each cluster planned for a capacity of 1.2 million Gross Tonnage (GT).</p></li></ul>
