(MOL)</b> has developed and begun fleet-wide deployment of the <b data-path-to-node="5" data-index-in-node="169">"Skater,"</b> a specialized onboard device designed to rapidly move vehicles that are temporarily unable to travel under their own power.</p><p data-path-to-node="6">Jointly developed with Yamato Chain Mfg. Co., Ltd. and MOL Techno-Trade Co., Ltd., the tool mounts directly onto a disabled vehicle. It allows vessel crews to reposition stalled automobiles in approximately <b data-path-to-node="6" data-index-in-node="207">five minutes</b>, eliminating the need for shoreside tow trucks or cranes and preventing cascading delays across Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) operations.</p><h3 data-path-to-node="8"><b data-path-to-node="8" data-index-in-node="0">Tight Cargo Spacing, Sequence Bottlenecks, and Fleet Rollout</b></h3><p data-path-to-node="9">The development targets the operational constraints unique to high-density roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) automobile transport:</p><ul data-path-to-node="10"><li><p data-path-to-node="10,0,0"><b data-path-to-node="10,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">Navigating High-Density Decks:</b> Pure car carriers load thousands of vehicles with extremely tight tolerances roughly 30 cm front-to-back, 10 cm side-to-side, and a minimum overhead clearance of 10 cm.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="10,1,0"><b data-path-to-node="10,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">Overcoming Sequential Delays:</b> Because vehicles are loaded and discharged in a strict, predetermined sequence, a single immobile unit due to a dead battery, low fuel, or mechanical failure can block dozens of adjacent cars.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="10,2,0"><b data-path-to-node="10,2,0" data-index-in-node="0">Eliminating Shoreside Dependence:</b> Previously, moving a non-operational vehicle required calling external tow trucks or cranes, causing cargo delays of several hours at ports where such equipment is scarce or unavailable.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="10,3,0"><b data-path-to-node="10,3,0" data-index-in-node="0">Fleet-Wide Deployment:</b> MOL has commenced rolling out the Skater across its entire operated car carrier fleet to ensure consistent, safe, and self-sufficient cargo handling at ports worldwide.</p></li></ul>
