<p data-path-to-node="2">The planned ₹76,220 crore Vadhavan Port project in Palghar district is being positioned as a key infrastructure driver for Maharashtra’s target of a $1 trillion state economy by 2030. Spearheaded by Vadhavan Port Project Limited (VPPL) a joint venture between the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA, 74%) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB, 26%) the greenfield, deep-draft port is designed to place India firmly on the top-10 global container gateway map.</p><p data-path-to-node="3">Once fully operational, the deepwater facility is projected to boost Maharashtra’s GDP by 1% while acting as an essential maritime node for major economic trade corridors.</p><h3 data-path-to-node="5"><b data-path-to-node="5" data-index-in-node="0">Multi-Modal Corridors and High-Capacity Transshipment Architecture</b></h3><p data-path-to-node="6">The all-weather mega-port is engineered to relieve extreme capacity congestion at existing west coast gateways while optimizing cross-border shipping velocities:</p><ul data-path-to-node="7"><li><p data-path-to-node="7,0,0"><b data-path-to-node="7,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">Massive Handling Scale:</b> The infrastructure layout features nine container terminals (each 1,000 meters long), four liquid cargo berths, four multipurpose berths, a dedicated Ro-Ro terminal, and a Coast Guard berth, providing a cumulative annual capacity of 298 million metric tonnes (MMT).</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="7,1,0"><b data-path-to-node="7,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">Deep-Draft Advantage:</b> The natural deep-draft layout permits the seamless berthing of ultra-large container vessels of up to 24,000 TEUs without continuous, high-cost capital dredging.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="7,2,0"><b data-path-to-node="7,2,0" data-index-in-node="0">Hinterland Connectivity Integration:</b> Transportation networks are being mapped out simultaneously, including a newly approved 105 km freight corridor linking the Samruddhi Expressway to the port, alongside direct linkages to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="7,3,0"><b data-path-to-node="7,3,0" data-index-in-node="0">Socio-Economic Footprint:</b> The construction and operational phases are expected to generate approximately 10 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities, supported by localized skilling MoUs with Maharashtra open universities.</p></li></ul><p data-path-to-node="8">On a macro level, Vadhavan's strategic location will anchor India's long-term export-import (EXIM) volumes moving across both the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC).</p>
