<p class="MsoNormal">Demonstrating strong operational resilience amid shifting

regional maritime trade routes, DP World Cochin’s International Container

Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) achieved its highest monthly cargo volume for the

2026 calendar year in May. The terminal successfully handled 77,637 twenty-foot

equivalent units (TEUs) during the month, establishing a vital performance

benchmark on India's southwestern seaboard.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Despite compounding global supply chain frictions and

geopolitical disruptions, the facility logged a 4% expansion in cumulative

year-to-date volumes through May 2026 compared to the corresponding period last

year.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Transshipment Surge Drives Regional Traffic Growth<o:p></o:p></b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">While localized origin-destination cargo volumes remained

stable, the record-setting monthly performance was heavily propelled by a surge

in transshipment traffic. As shipping lines look to optimize multi-modal

networks, the Kochi facility absorbed a significant amount of cargo diverted

from alternate regional gateways.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Key metrics from the May operational surge include:<o:p></o:p></p>

<ul style="margin-top:0cm" type="disc">

<li class="MsoNormal"><b>Transshipment

Benchmark:</b> The terminal processed an all-time high monthly

transshipment volume of 28,000 TEUs.<o:p></o:p></li>

<li class="MsoNormal"><b>Increased

Fleet Connectivity:</b> The facility seamlessly managed 17 additional

vessel calls outside its standard weekly service schedules.<o:p></o:p></li>

<li class="MsoNormal"><b>Operational

Adaptability:</b> Terminal operators maintained baseline productivity

metrics without accumulating vessel turnaround delays despite the sudden

influx of off-schedule callers.<o:p></o:p></li>

</ul>

<p class="MsoNormal">Highlighting the terminal's strategic position, Dipin

Kayyath, Chief Executive Officer – Ports &amp; Terminals, DP World Cochin,

stated:<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">"The record throughput achieved in May reflects the

dedication of our teams and the confidence our customers place in DP World

Cochin. We continue to deliver higher volumes while maintaining world-class

productivity standards, further strengthening our position as a preferred

gateway for trade."<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Decarbonization and Infrastructure Upgrades Support Scale<o:p></o:p></b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">To sustain this high-density cargo momentum without creating

terminal congestion, the port operator has steadily introduced targeted

infrastructure investments. The facility recently upgraded its primary

sub-station power infrastructure from 3 MVA to 5 MVA, providing the necessary

electrical buffer to power specialized reefer connections and high-capacity

machinery during peak traffic hours.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Simultaneously, the operator finalized the complete

electrification of its entire yard equipment fleet, replacing diesel-powered

units with electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes (e-RTGs). The engineering

overhaul has significantly lowered localized terminal carbon emissions,

directly supporting the environmental and scope-3 sustainability targets of

calling global shipping alliances.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Co-Located Economic Zone Anchors Multi-Modal Freight<o:p></o:p></b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Positioned directly alongside major global east-west

maritime trade lanes, the Cochin terminal serves as a central coastal pipeline

linking cargo networks stretching from Gujarat to West Bengal.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">To tighten regional logistics integration, the complex

leverages Kerala’s first Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) which stands as the

only specialized trade zone in India co-located directly inside a major port

boundary. The integrated trade zone enables international businesses to execute

friction-free cargo consolidation, long-term duty-deferred storage, and rapid

coastal redistribution, fortifying Cochin's standing as a dominant hub for EXIM

logistics.<o:p></o:p></p>
