<p data-path-to-node="2">Marking a critical milestone for India's domestic energy supply security, the Malta-flagged liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier <i data-path-to-node="2" data-index-in-node="136">Disha</i> successfully arrived at Dahej Port in Gujarat on Friday morning. The specialized vessel has safely anchored at the Petronet LNG jetty to discharge its vital fuel cargo.</p><p data-path-to-node="3">The arrival follows the tanker’s successful navigation through the highly sensitive Strait of Hormuz maritime chokepoint amid complex regional developments in West India and West Asia.</p><h3 data-path-to-node="5"><b data-path-to-node="5" data-index-in-node="0">Securing 62,370 Metric Tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas</b></h3><p data-path-to-node="6">Operated by a shipping consortium led by the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and chartered by Petronet LNG, the heavy carrier is transporting a massive cargo of 62,370 metric tonnes of LNG. The fuel supply originally departed from the Ras Laffan energy terminal in Qatar.</p><p data-path-to-node="7">The successful delivery is expected to immediately boost domestic LNG availability, supporting stable power generation and industrial operations across the country's central natural gas distribution networks. Located in Gujarat's industrial Bharuch district, the Dahej hub operates as India’s largest specialized LNG import terminal.</p><h3 data-path-to-node="9"><b data-path-to-node="9" data-index-in-node="0">Ministry Confirms Normal Port Operations and Seafarer Welfare</b></h3><p data-path-to-node="10">Providing a comprehensive update during an inter-ministerial operational briefing, Opesh Kumar Sharma, Director in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), confirmed that the <i data-path-to-node="10" data-index-in-node="189">Disha</i> had cleared the Strait of Hormuz on June 15 before steaming directly toward its destination in India. Sharma noted that no other allied merchant vessels have exited the Persian Gulf region behind the <i data-path-to-node="10" data-index-in-node="395">Disha</i> as authorities continue to monitor regional transport corridors.</p><p data-path-to-node="11">The Ministry, working alongside the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), has maintained close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, foreign missions, and commercial vessel operators to manage transit safety. To mitigate risks and assist families, a dedicated 24/7 maritime control room set up by DG Shipping has handled 13,187 phone calls and 29,376 operational emails. The emergency system has successfully facilitated the repatriation of more than 3,639 maritime professionals so far.</p><p data-path-to-node="12">Despite localized shipping constraints in international waters, the Ministry confirmed that domestic commercial trade remains completely robust. "Port operations across India remain normal with no cargo congestion reported," Sharma stated.</p>
