<p data-path-to-node="1">In a major recalibration of its coastal infrastructure strategy, the West Bengal government has shifted its focus away from the long-delayed Tajpur deep-sea port project. Following a comprehensive review that deemed the original Tajpur site commercially and operationally unviable, the state is moving forward with a replacement deep-seaport project at Dadanpatra in the East Midnapore district.</p><p data-path-to-node="2">The policy shift follows the formal exit of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) from the Tajpur development. Approximately ₹30 crore had been spent on preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) before the site was determined to be economically unfeasible for a private-led, full-scale development.</p><h4 data-path-to-node="3"><b data-path-to-node="3" data-index-in-node="0">A New Model for Dadanpatra</b></h4><p data-path-to-node="4">The newly proposed deep-seaport at Dadanpatra, situated roughly 10 kilometers from Tajpur, marks a transition from a purely private concession to a joint-government initiative.</p><ul data-path-to-node="5"><li><p data-path-to-node="5,0,0"><b data-path-to-node="5,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">Land Allocation:</b> The West Bengal government has committed a 1,700-acre land parcel to host the new maritime facility.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="5,1,0"><b data-path-to-node="5,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">Central Collaboration:</b> Unlike the previous standalone model, the state plans to establish the Dadanpatra port in direct partnership with the Central Government.</p></li><li><p data-path-to-node="5,2,0"><b data-path-to-node="5,2,0" data-index-in-node="0">Revenue-Sharing Frame:</b> The state administration has expressed openness to a structured revenue-sharing model with the Center to accelerate development and secure financing. Preliminary operational frameworks were discussed during high-level meetings between state leadership and the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.</p></li></ul><h4 data-path-to-node="6"><b data-path-to-node="6" data-index-in-node="0">Kolkata Enters Urban Water Metro Grid</b></h4><p data-path-to-node="7">Alongside heavy maritime logistics, the state government announced a major expansion of its municipal passenger transit. Kolkata is slated to be integrated into India’s ambitious national Water Metro network.</p><p data-path-to-node="8">With this inclusion, Kolkata becomes the 18th city in the country to adopt the centralized, high-speed urban water transport grid. The project aims to reduce vehicular congestion on major city corridors by diverting passenger traffic to modernized, eco-friendly river ferry networks.</p>
