Operating under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the Visakhapatnam Port stands as one of India’s premier maritime hubs, making this a pivotal administrative shift. Bindra, who will serve at the Joint Secretary level, has been cleared for a five-year tenure from the date he officially assumes charge of the responsibilities.</p><p data-path-to-node="2">A seasoned bureaucrat from the 1996 IRTS batch, Bindra brings nearly thirty years of extensive experience embedded within the Indian Railways ecosystem. Throughout his career, he has specialized in complex sectors including transport administration, commercial railway operations, safety management, and multimodal logistics. His deep understanding of network operations and supply chain management is expected to play a critical role in optimizing port efficiency and enhancing its cargo-handling ecosystem.</p><p data-path-to-node="3">Academically, the new chairperson holds a robust foundation that bridges technical expertise with corporate governance, featuring a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics alongside a Master of Business Administration (MBA). This blend of engineering precision and strategic management training has consistently defined his approach to public sector governance. Over his decades-long career, Bindra has successfully steered several high-profile leadership roles, including stints as Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Director (Safety), Chief Passenger Transportation Manager, and Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), alongside a key inter-ministerial deputation as Director in the Ministry of Coal.</p><p data-path-to-node="4">The appointment comes at a crucial juncture for the Visakhapatnam Port Authority as it aggressively expands its maritime infrastructure to cement its position on India's eastern seaboard.
