<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif">Leading

maritime carrier Hapag-Lloyd and global logistics provider Kuehne+Nagel have

officially launched their first joint sustainability initiative, marking a

significant milestone in the race to decarbonize international ocean freight.

This strategic partnership is specifically designed to tackle carbon footprints

along major trade routes, with an ambitious target of reducing approximately

3,000 tonnes of $CO_{2}e$ emissions throughout 2026. By integrating

Hapag-Lloyd's "Ship Green" product into Kuehne+Nagel’s supply chain

solutions, the two industry leaders are demonstrating how large-scale

cooperation can yield measurable climate impacts in the notoriously

difficult-to-abate shipping sector.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif">The core

of this agreement involves a massive deployment of sustainable marine fuels

(SMF) to power cargo movements across the critical East Asia to North Europe

trade lane. Between April and December 2026, the companies plan to utilize

roughly 1,000 tonnes of waste-based biofuels that strictly comply with the

Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) standards. This initiative will cover the

transportation of approximately 3,300 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU),

resulting in a calculated avoidance of nearly 2,979 tonnes of $CO_{2}e$

emissions on a comprehensive well-to-wake basis.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif">To ensure

transparency and scalability, the partnership employs a sophisticated

"book-and-claim" chain-of-custody methodology. This system allows

Kuehne+Nagel to offer verified emission reductions to its customers, even if

the biofuel is consumed by a different Hapag-Lloyd vessel than the one carrying

their specific containers. By decoupling the physical fuel from the carbon

credit, the companies can maximize operational efficiency while providing

shippers with a credible way to address their Scope 3 emissions.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif">This

collaborative effort serves as a vital stepping stone toward the long-term

climate commitments of both organizations. It directly supports Hapag-Lloyd’s

roadmap to achieve net-zero fleet operations by 2045 and aligns with

Kuehne+Nagel’s broader mission to reach net-zero emissions across its entire

value chain by 2050. As the shipping industry faces increasing regulatory and

consumer pressure to go green, this initiative sets a high standard for how

maritime and logistics providers can partner to drive the global energy

transition forward.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
